Kingspan Insulation

Kingspan Insulation

Project Size:

1.36 MW DC

Location:

Winchester, VA

Completion:

2024

Impact:

1,172 metric tons of CO₂ offset annually

Project Overview

Dynamic developed, engineered, and installed 1.36 MW of onsite rooftop solar for  Kingspan, a global leader in high-performance insulation and building envelope solutions.

The solar project, located at its Winchester, VA manufacturing facility, is a vital step in Kingspan’s 10-year sustainability initiative, “Planet Passionate,” which aims to achieve net-zero energy by 2030, reduce carbon emissions, and increase renewable energy use across its global facilities. “As a mission-driven solar developer and EPC, we are proud to support Kingspan’s net-zero emissions goals,” said Pat Hastings, Senior Vice President of Field Engineering and QAQC.

Carbon Offset

The new solar energy system has more than 2,700 solar panels and uses 82,000 square feet. The project is expected to produce 1,677,000 kilowatt-hours each year and offset 1,172 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year. This is equivalent to removing over 280 cars from the road each year or powering 153 homes for a year.

“Manufacturing accounts for 78% of the U.S. industrial sector’s energy consumption and 12% of the global carbon emissions,” according to Hastings. “Strategic investment in onsite solar helps organizations reduce their carbon emissions while providing a long-term hedge against rising energy costs. Partnering with Kingspan and Madison to develop, build, and energize this project aligns with our mission to deploy more distributed generation projects and decarbonize the grid.”

Collaboration and Partner Engagement

The project was developed and constructed by Dynamic Energy, working with Kingspan to engineer and install the system to optimize their industrial rooftop space to best match their energy usage. Madison Energy Infrastructure owns and operates the project, ensuring its long-term performance.

MEI Kingspan Ribbon Cutting-9

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

In November 2024, the project was commemorated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and employee luncheon recognizing Kingspan’s commitment to sustainability on November 20. Members of all three companies, workers at the facility, and the community attended the event. Speakers highlighted the significance of onsite solar in supporting Kingspan’s mission to deliver high-performance products for energy-efficient buildings.
